Watch for Special Considerations When Treating Transgender Patients

New legislation and growing media coverage will bring up questions about how to care for transgender patients.

Almost a million people in the U.S. identify as transgender...and have a gender identity that differs from the sex assigned at birth.

When talking with transgender patients, ask for their preferred name and gender, and update profiles. Some people don't identify entirely as male or female and may prefer neutral pronouns such as "they" or "ze."
